Paul Sanford Sees GOP’s Handshake with Alabama As Direction for Economic Recovery
08/16/2010
Newly minted State Senator Paul Sanford (R-Huntsville) gave his approval today of the 2010 Republican Handshake with Alabama, an agenda the GOP is promoting if Republicans reach a majority in both or either Houses of the Alabama Legislature in 2010.
The Handshake with Alabama focuses on job creation, enacting tougher immigration laws, improving ethics, controlling state spending and keeping federal government from infringing on issues traditionally governed by the states. "Centering our attention on these five points will allow Alabama to get ahead of the curve on an economic recovery and help lead the country out of this prolonged recession. The Handshake is right on target of what we need to focus on in Alabama to improve the job climate, put teeth in our ethics laws, address illegal immigration, reel in Washington's intrusion and control state spending," said Senator Sanford. "I guarantee my vote to see to it that we pass this legislative agenda next Session," he added.
"If we want to turn the page on the politics of the past, we must put new people in leadership, and that's what I'm all about – fresh ideas and actual follow through," stated Sanford. "The current leadership in the Alabama Legislature has put our state in the position it is in today – proration. Republicans want to put Alabama on a proactive path that leads to an improved economy, job creation, a highly trained workforce and a realistic budget," he concluded.
Paul Sanford was elected to the Alabama Senate in a special election in June of 2009 and has only served during one Regular Session. He and his wife Danielle own and operate "little Paul's Barbecue" in Huntsville. The couple has two children, Chase and Ryan.
