Candidate Paul Sanford Takes on Pork at Tea Party
04/15/2009
Paul Sanford, Republican candidate for the Alabama Senate in next Tuesday’s primary runoff, in a speech today lashed out at the federal government for out-of-control spending. At the "Tax Day Tea Party" in Huntsville, Sanford’s remarks took aim at the bloated federal budget and government intervention in private sector companies.
"In this age of government bailouts, stimulus packages, T.A.R.P. programs and a monstrous budget, we are all wondering if our country has gone crazy," Mr. Sanford said. He urged the rally participants to stay involved in the political process. "It’s time to make the fathers of our country proud. Get involved locally, run for office, engage your legislators, and be part of the solutions that will strengthen our country," Sanford added.
Tax Day Tea Parties were held in sixteen Alabama cities today where citizens came to protest the spending policies of the White House and Congress. There were similar rallies in many other cities around the country.
Paul Sanford supporters were waving homemade signs reading, "Pork should be smoked, not spent," a reference to federal spending. Mr. Sanford’s and his wife Danielle own and operate a restaurant in Huntsville, “little Paul’s Barbecue.”
The Republican runoff will take place Tuesday, April 21st.
